The Ivy Forest Greetings from Mableton, GA ※ United States

Another Xmas gift to share… I revisited one of my favorite fingerless glove patterns, Spiral Staircase Mitts, using Malabrigo Rios in Pocion.

I wasn’t sure about the color initially- I didn’t know what color to choose for the recipient, and I am not really all that fond of blue, but this seemed like it would work out nicely… I’m glad I went with it- I really love it! I’ll definitely buy more of this color way…

Well, once I decide I can buy yarn again XD My stash is out of control, and really, I don’t need to buy more yarn. No buying yarn! Don’t do it, Jessica, just don’t… Unless it’s on sale, or being discontinued, just don’t buy the yarn for at least two months. I feel like two months is doable~ I guess we’ll see!

The great thing about gift knitting is that I’ll have lots of stuff to post ;)

These are some lovely and ever-so-soft finger gloves I knit for my husband ♥ The pattern is Vancouver Fog, an excellent and very customizable pattern. I love doing cables, and these did not disappoint!

For these, I decided to splurge, and used Madelinetosh Pashmina Worsted- absolutely amazing! I already enjoyed working this pattern, but the yarn seriously made this project a million times better. It’s a 75% Merino/15% Silk/10% Cashmere blend, and yeah, it is really fucking wonderful. I went with Dustbowl, since it’s a nice neutral-yet-interesting color.

I made my husband luxury mitts, and what did he get me? A fucking scooter! How can I possibly live up to something like that? XD Well, he is the best ♥ ♥ ♥

ALSO!!! Tin Can Knits is offering one free pattern to everyone! Just use the coupon code sharethelove after you add your choice to your cart :) I chose the Snowflake pullover!

Hooray, finished another shawlette! It’s another Summer Flies, with modifications, using Malabrigo Worsted Merino in Damask. My project is Raveled here if you’re into that kind of thing ;)

I love this pattern so much! It’s so easy to modify to be exactly what you want, and very forgiving if you happen to make mistakes. Though I always forget how much I loath knitting 400 stitch rows, ha. I’m happy it’s done :)

Now, on to holiday gift knitting! How many pairs of fingerless gloves can I make? Let’s find out!

I recently finished my first pair of knitted socks, hooray! The first one flew by and off my needles in record time, but the second kind of dragged along, slowly, slowly… But, I took it along with me on a camping trip this past weekend, and managed to finish them up!

I found this yarn at Big Lots (a discount store) a few months ago, and figured the time was right to knit my first socks. The yarn is actually not too bad, considering it was a dollar a skein. Not particularly soft, but still squishy and durable- I think it’d make excellent boot socks. I like all the colors and stripes it has! I’m a little sad I decided to go with ribbing on these, since it breaks up the patterned stripes, but it still looks alright.

They are a little bit mismatched… When I started the first one, it didn’t occur to me to go ahead and start a slip knot in the same place on the second skein I had, for the second sock.  Lesson learned!

The pattern I used is Lifestyle Toe-Up Socks, with a 3x2 ribbing across the top of the foot, and up the ankle/leg. For one, I used DPNs, and for the other, I learned Magic Loop, which I have to say- I really love! I’m also really quite fond of how this pattern presented all the information needed, and how easily customizable it is- I really enjoyed being able to try my socks on while knitting them! Now, I just have to learn two-at-a-time for my next pair~

(Also, I really need to find a small rug and figure out better lighting for when I take photos of my feet and legs! The lighting situation in my craft room is pretty tragic, and the floor is covered with thread 97% of the time…)

I feel like I haven’t really been posting as much as I would like… Been pretty under the weather the past few weeks, and the past few days have been particularly rough. Well, since I’ve been sick, my motivation to knit, or work on anything really, has just not shown itself! So, in the meantime, I’ll post some other projects and other crafts!

I recently finished this dress, made with an adorable vintage pattern ♥ I’m a sucker for the cute illustrations on older patterns, even though I should know better then to think that my finished object will look anything like the drawing. The hope is always still there, though! In this case, I think my dress came out a bit frumpy. Cute, but still frumpy. I thought, maybe, since the pattern size was smaller then my own measurements, then it would work out nicely, but it still came out strangely big. It fits well enough, but it will take some creative thinking to style it nicely if I plan to wear it out!

Thankfully I used really inexpensive fabric for this, so I consider it my mock-up. I really love the pattern and it’s construction, so I’ll make some modifications for my next one- thinner fabric, draft smaller sleeves, widen the bust so it gathers a bit more, and do two or three channels of elastic below the bust. Oh, and maybe pockets! I love pockets :)

Just a little stole I knitted for Frankie, using a tiny bit of Red Heart Stardust sock yarn. I’ve found that knitting small-scale items is actually kind of annoying, but still very gratifying.

I really cannot believe it took me so long to finish this project… I started this in August 2010. Wow. I had started it, then got carried away starting other new projects, and never returned, until last weekend. I pulled it out since I needed a car project, and finished it in record time. Well, I’m glad it’s finally complete!

My project is Raveled here, the pattern is Kink by Jodie Gordon Lucas.

A newly finished shawl! I participated in the Reddit Knit-A-Long for April, so fun! Initially I had planned on using something from my stash, but one weekend I was browsing a lys, and found this delicious Malabrigo merino worsted yarn. I’m very happy with my choice, it’s a lovely yarn to work with, so soft and smooth, and the colorway is really wonderful!

The pattern is nice, too! Very simple, easy to work, and it was a quick knit- less then a week’s worth of work :)

My project is Raveled here. Pattern is The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief.

My herringbone scarflette is done! I used the yarn I hand dyed last week, and I absolutely love the result. The dye job was not perfect, but I am rather fond of it. I really enjoyed knitting this stitch, it’s very interesting to work up.

I think I’ll be offering this one up for trade, since it never gets cold enough here to use something so warm, and it’d be a shame to let this languish in my closet.
